Independence of the Voluntary Sector Survey

Ulster University’s Institute for Research in the Social Sciences (IRiSS) has been commissioned by the Building Change Trust to carry out research into the independence of the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector in Northern Ireland.

This is an important and ground-breaking opportunity to identify the challenges and opportunities facing the sector in Northern Ireland, as well as the sector’s response to these challenges and opportunities.  The research focuses on three overlapping dimensions of independence: 

  1. Independence of Purpose (the mission and values of organisations)
  2. Independence of Voice (the ability to protest and campaign, or defend a cause, without fear of consequences).
  3. Independence of Action (the ability to design innovative activities that best meet needs). 

A key part of the research involves capturing the views and experiences of organisations and individuals in the sector through an online survey. If you would like to take part in the survey please click on the link below:
