Techies in Residence - Colin Glen Trust
We're taking a closer look at the organisations working in our Techies in Residence programme. Next up it is the Colin Glen Trust...
Colin Glen Trust is one of the great organisations that we’re working with in Techies in Residence. Their problem is slightly different than the other projects, and should make for exciting work throughout the period. Looking forward to getting more info and seeing how this develops.
Colin Glen is a beautiful wooded glen owned by the NIEA and Managed by Colin Glen Trust situated in Dunmurry at the base of the Belfast Hills. The park offers an exciting array of outdoor activities, golf academy, 3G football pitches, gymnasium as well as environmental education and youth work programmes.
Colin Glen has been described as Belfast’s Green Lung, the park was the first community park in Northern Ireland to be awarded the Green Flag Award – a National Benchmark for quality parks and green spaces.
The park has recently become a recreation playground for individuals, families and groups seeking some solstice from the hustle and bustle of every day life.
The Problem
The park is trying to come up with new and innovative ways to attract people to the park, as well as increasing visitor numbers and have earmarked an area of the park to become a virtual “Fairy Glen” that will combine virtual technology with an experiential attraction that will be suitable for families.
The creation of content and inspiration can come from children in the local area through workshops yet the story and attraction could mix technology that can be stored centrally and is a new attraction to the park.
