Investing in Volunteers

Investing in Volunteers is the UK quality standard for all organisations which involve volunteers in their work

The Volunteer Development Agency, through their Building Change Award have been resourced to support organisations complete and attain the Investing in Volunteers standard.

In 2009 the RNID (The Royal National Institute for deaf people) achieved the standard following an extensive piece of work supported by the Agency

RNID reported that although they had been developing volunteering in the organisation over the last few years they realised that there were gaps and wanted to work to achieve the award to be able to recruit, train and support volunteers in the confidence that they were doing it right.

Helen Connolly from RNID stated “we are so proud to have received this award. Our staff and volunteers now have the confidence that we are operating within recognised best practice. Certain changes needed to be made at an organisational level and having Investing in Volunteers to back up why these changes needed to happen gave more weight to our argument.”
