Building Change Trust puts its money where its mission is!

Charity Bank, which invests purely for social change, has received a substantial deposit from the Building Change Trust, an organisation funded by the Big Lottery Fund to develop and shape the future of Northern Ireland’s voluntary and community sector.

The £200,000 deposit will return the Trust a fair interest rate on its funds, while helping Charity Bank to deliver loans to charities and community organisations.  The deposit complements the work of the Building Change Trust, which aims to promote the effective use of charitable resources in Northern Ireland.

Charity Bank has invested extensively in Northern Ireland, providing access to finance for a range of voluntary and community organisations including Omagh Community House, Holywell Trust and the Belfast Buildings Preservation Trust.

“Omagh Community House is a great example of how Charity Bank has been able to put depositors’ money to use locally in a positive way,” explained Niamh Goggin of Charity Bank.  “We are very pleased that the Building Change Trust has adopted the principles of mission-related investment, delivering both a social and a financial return for its bank deposits.”

In addition to its lending activities, Charity Bank is also managing a range of projects to strengthen financial and strategic management capabilities within the voluntary and community sector.  With support from the Building Change Trust and The Atlantic Philanthropies, an Advanced Diploma course in Investment Readiness and Financial Management will be launched by the University of Ulster in autumn 2011.
